Aoun orders tighter security and weapons confiscation, with more state forces in the south
The president says no attempt to undermine stability will be tolerated.
President Joseph Aoun called for stricter enforcement of security measures and for the confiscation of weapons and ammunition, according to LBCI, after chairing a security meeting.
He urged that public displays of arms be prevented, investigations be speeded up and violators be referred to the judiciary. "Any attempt to undermine security or threaten the country's stability must not be tolerated," he said, adding that economic grievances must not be exploited to that end.
Aoun also asked for the Internal Security Forces, General Security and State Security to be reinforced in southern villages and towns not under Israeli occupation, to reassure residents and ease access to administrative services.
He praised the Army and security services for their readiness and for solving crimes quickly, and called for continuous intelligence sharing and clearly defined responsibilities among agencies.
